It isn't logical at all and I don't *intellectually* (only viscerally) understand it.
All I can think is that it's like putting a knot in your hanky or wearing a wedding ring - a constant reminder to be who you intended to be.
It also sets you apart in society; which I am not sure is entirely a good thing, but has a kind of peaceful effect. It means you just walk right on by some of the potential involvemnets and interactions that may be a constant process of negotiation and decision for others. On the other hand, you do start up some new ones - and those may be a nuisance but also may be welcome (eg 'Why are you wearing that odd hat?')Pen Wilcockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13818227904371811230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55532501364780143.post-88354171102982655062010-08-18T23:02:30.529+01:002010-08-18T23:02:30.529+01:00I understand these ideas, and I can see that they ...I understand these ideas, and I can see that they connect, for you, to the practice of head-covering, but the connection just isn't there for me. Gelassenheit is letting-go-ness, but head-covering seems to me like adding something. To my mind, true simplicity and humility would be just having your hair. Why put something on top of it in order to be more free? I can see it makes sense for you, but it just seems illogical to me.Buzzfloydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10907833292561328868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55532501364780143.post-1972835466149789782010-08-18T01:10:45.510+01:002010-08-18T01:10:45.510+01:00I definitely need to pay better attention! ☺ And ...I definitely need to pay better attention! ☺ And I think my daughter is the one suffering from ADD...Ganeidahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17176246964466185315noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-55532501364780143.post-80448272995152791572010-08-18T00:09:36.464+01:002010-08-18T00:09:36.464+01:00Actually I think true humility and rampant origina...Actually I think true humility and rampant originality *do* go well together.
When I cast my mind back over the monks/nuns/pure souls I've known who were humble and simple, they are all also on the far horizon of eccentric. [Plain, dark chocolate, very simple. ☺]

I had run into gelassenheit in association with the Amish before but I have this curious tension in my psyche. I want both true humility & rampant originality & the 2 don't seem to mesh well together, hence I swing wildly between the two. Christ seemed to manage it rather nicely so perhaps I just need to pay more attention.

One other thing I will say about the covering, apart from the odd stares, I get odd questions about belief & the nature of the afterlife. As if I'd know!!! I tell people what I understand scripture says but they could just as easily read it for themselves.Ganeidahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17176246964466185315noreply@blogger.com
