365

It occurred to me today - if every day in 2012 I find one thing to move out of my life, by the end of the year I'd have 365 fewer things.

I like that idea.  I might try it.

  1. Interesting, but do you have to compensate for items purchased during the 365 days?

  2. Hi,Ember!
This idea is inspired! What a simple, no-fuss way to declutter our homes, and our lives and to make room for what is meaningful and important. I'm not going to wait until the new year, I'm going to start tomorrow! I learn so much from you, thank for your wisdom and inspiration.
    Blessings to you and yours!

  3. :0) Hi friends xxx

Fun to do this together, Julie!

Bean - I was thinking of operating a one-in-two out system.

Megan - thank you :0) - I felt keen to start right away too but, anticipating that as I go along it might get harder, what I've actually begun is assembling some things I've identified as Items That Can Go, ready for the steady purge once the new year starts.

I was a little discouraged by the reality that the first thing that happened was ordering 2 books off Amazon, Toinette Lippe's "nothing Left Over" and Junichiro Tanizaki's "In Praise of Shadows", and I am further contemplating purchasing the films "Baraka" and "Koyaansqatsi"! I wasn't sure if that was okay because we haven't reached 2012 yet, or if I have to find 8 things to lose in compensation! Fairly easy to do after Christmas! Maybe I could lose 2 pound in weight for each of those particular purchases, that would be a blessing!

  4. Whoops, misspelling! I meant "Koyaanisqatsi".

  5. Oh! I LIKE this idea! :) :) :) I might have difficulties sticking to it though 'cause I'm hoping to sell our house/move in the spring and I can tell you A LOT of stuff's going to the tip when that happens.

I'll have a think about how I can make it happen... Compensating purchases is already underway! :)

  6. started this today, I didn't specifically get rid of an item, I did however clean out two drawers in the sideboard, the junk drawer in the kitchen and organized the kitchen cupboard that holds medicines and phone books etc. We do not need the last 3 years of phone books!!!

In cleaning out the drawers, I found two pairs of earrings I had forgotten about, and several spools of white thread - so that was a bonus.

  7. :0) Yes, there seems to be an energy running after Christmas (each year)for calming and clearing. My husband spent most of his day in the shed sorting and chucking out obsolete items - everything from his father's father's fly-fishing rods to herbicides that we prefer not to use on our garden.

  10. I think this is the only thing that I will join this year. No challenges, but simply letting go of something that clutters and keeps me in a state of unrest!

Thank you for thinking of this...
