We had this queen wasp in our house. She came in through the studio door that leads out onto the veranda, and had a good nose round. Evidently she was in search of the perfect place to make a nest.
The studio really appealed to her, full of nooks and crannies and nice little places that looked just right for a wasp.
Best of all – she came back to have another inspection today – she liked the look of the organ stop board that Hebe and Alice are painting on commission for someone with a home organ.
Wasp heaven.

Oh, these were a bit more cheery. I liked these ones. But hey, you get the hang of it after a while, if you know what I mean, and start to think, “All right, all right!”

ReplyDeleteWaps-es is evil missus! I've had 2 the size of small bats in my bathroom...they are lucky I managed to get them outside alive as the next stop was death row for them. I know they are God's creatures an' all but they's meaner 'n anything!

I like wasps. They aren't hard to usher out. Usually I just catch them in or on a cloth and shake them out of the window, but if there are several a saucer of honey-and-water just outside usually attracts them away.
We reached our Wasp Xenith the summer Bernard was dying. That cottage was titchy but we still had room for 5 wasps nests in the roof, one in the wall, and a regularly visiting hornet. What a buzzy house!!!
P.S. I don't like them THAT much. Bernard had got a bit spiritual about it, what with dying and all, but we the living killed them.
ReplyDeleteWe had a huge bumblebee fly through our house the other day. A little research suggests it was a queen Bombus terrestris, so I will keep the grass and flowers long for a bit so she can find plenty of pollen and a good place to build her nest. She was colossal, though!

ReplyDeleteAll bumblebees have Bombus in their name, which delights me. This one was as big as a small mouse, I think.
