Oh my goodness!
Finally!
Nagisa
Tatsumi’s book The Art of Discarding has
come out in an English translation! This
is the book that inspired Marie Kondo (KonMari). I’ve searched and searched for
it in translation – but at last it’s here (Hodder and Stoughton).
I’m
enjoying it so much.
And
– talking of the Japanese art of small space living – this video is an absolute
joy.
I love Marie Kondo's book.
ReplyDeleteI found a lot more spiritual insights in her simple book, insights about the emotions relating to our stuff. And I love her how her Shinto background has influenced her approach to a very modern issue. The folding is wonderful too! I can fit a lot more into a lot less space. Her approach gave me freedom, from wanting more space and more furniture to store my stuff and from feeling overwhelmed by possessions. I now no longer shudder when I see the laundry mountain and instead try to feel peaceful and mindful as I fold. She also taught me how to give love to an ugly house that did not match my inner aesthetic at all.
How interesting that you had that extra bonus of coming to love your house!
