Isn't there a Buddhist saying along the lines of happiness being the way, not the goal.

Yes - that is just the kind of thing Thich Nhat Hanh often mentions in his teaching. x

I had some christian friends ( I am a practicing christian) around a few weeks ago and noticed my wife's buddha. They were shocked but I was to reassure them that it was not an idol to worship but a reminder of peace, simplicity and reflection. I have prayed around their comments and my answer since. I was joyed to see the Thich Nhat Hanh saying on your blog. Blessings Chris X

Sometime Christian friends misunderstand the nature and purpose of bodhisattva and buddha statues. I wrote a bit about it here: http://kindredofthequietway.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/root-teachers.html
