What struck me about Fi's version of this song (which I had always thought carefree and cheerful) is how intensely sad it feels. Somehow, it's been re-interpreted away from, "Don't worry, it'll all turn out okay", to "Things don't always turn out as you hope, life is neither what you planned nor what you wanted, but you have to accept the hand you're dealt". And I see how both perspectives can be true, with the same set of words. xxx
Yes, I could barely watch to the end it was so emotive. Fi has a real talent for sharing such thoughts. It really drew my attention to the generations involved too. It's the same for us all. Comforting, and yet not so. Deb x
This was beautiful and her voice and her version is deeply moving. I learnt this from driving with my Dad and also know a lot of Neil Diamond! "yes, we have no bananas" is sadly another one I know off by heart too, ha ha! I sang this song to my children from birth and then my granddaughter Iris, and I have heard Madeleine (her Mum) and my husband Geoff both singing or humming it to Iris. It never fails to calm her and has enough verses to calm us too! It is our family song. Thank you for sharing this.

Yes! I thought that, too — about the generations. Poignant. x
