Photographing veins

So I came across this rather marvellous picture on Pinterest that shows you how to tell if you are warm or cool on the colour spectrum. Here it is (thanks so much to whoever put it online):

I peered at my veins and — oh, no!! — they looked green. Just as I'd embraced my inner chill and all.

But it was night time and our lamplight is yellow.

So I tried holding my wrist under a white (presumably neutral) light and photographing it. This is what it looked like.

That's blue . . . I think . . .

And now it's morning — here are my veins in the clear (snowy) light of day:

Jeepers. Have I even got any veins? They don't look powerful like the ones in the photo from Pinterest.

Maybe I shouldn't be wearing any clothes at all. Maybe it doesn't matter. I can feel myself ceasing to care. Maybe I should be thinking about World Peace and concentrating on doing some housework.

I could show you my varicose veins. Or . . . maybe not.

Oh, but — wait — you have to have your hand dangling down not held up, don't you? So the blood all falls down and the vein shows up. Let me try that . . . there!

Is that green or blue? I haven't got the faintest idea. Oh, bugger it, I'll wear what I like.

Wear what makes you happy - definitely!! And comfortable of course - which is part of being happy in what you wear xx

That'll be grey, dark green, dark teal, grey green, charcoal and smoky blue, then. With some very cool, dusty grey pink and dirty clay yellow in the summer time. And greige. Dying petals, dust and donkeys.

Isn't it interesting that what we like to wear - what makes us feel good about ourselves - can so often be different from what might be perceived as flattering on us by others? I was labeled an "autumn" when I had my colors done - and I think they were right, and I like those colors, but I wear mostly black and gray clothing, especially on the top half of me, even though I know they make me look stern, tired, and washed out. So yes, I agree, wear what makes you happy!

Probably best to wear what you like. My veins are so bad and hard to find that a nurse informed me once that that I could be dead and no one would know. I remember thinking that I would probably know but didn't like to say anything.

Your veins are very wise; hiding from the nurses! They remember . . .

I'm supposed to be a spring, but I must wear darker, drab colors that apparently don't make a spring look springy. I feel less obvious in them, and more comfortable. My veins are bluest blue. You can write about anything and make it interesting or funny or thought-provoking. xoxo

You seem to have your own perfect Pen style anyways. Yes, yes, wear whatever you like. We all know it won't have a boatneck though. ;)

Julie B — if your veins are bluest blue, you are not a Spring but a Summer or Winter. If you are comfortable in quiet, muted colours, you are probably a deep/dark/soft summer or dark winter. Have a look at the colour palettes for the on Pinterest and elsewhere online, and see what you think.

:) I find your clothes posts fascinating. I am perhaps unreasonably riveted by relationship and experiences we have with the minor, everyday things that shape our lives--clothes and food being two of my favorites. We (culturally) talk big things much more often than the little, but the little we have more personal contact with...

Yes — my life is so infinitesimally small that my mind is normally occupied with spider mites and grains of dust.

And it is like a breath of fresh air. I mean, in the grand scheme of things we are pretty small, too...but that make us no less important in the grand scheme either, I think.
