Wall flowers

I am really pleased with this.

In the pictures of Innermost House, I noticed that Diana Lorence has what I have discovered is called a “wall pocket” or “wall vase” – a flower vase that hangs on the wall instead of sitting on a table.

This seemed like an excellent idea to me – I do like flowers but the vases always seem to get in the way.

So I searched around for one on the internet to see if I could find a version I liked.  The eBay examples I found were mostly art deco (not a style I warm to) or very ornate Louis Quatorze type of thing (cherubs and flowers and curlicues), or rather heavy brown studio pottery.  And none especially cheap, and of course the postage adds a lot with breakables.

Hmm . . . what to do . . .

I had been looking for a very plain vase, not too heavy, large enough for quite big flowers, not too fragile, in some shade of white, in either frosted glass or ceramic.

And then I remembered.

In the recycling bin, that very morning, I had put out the empty Ecover washing up liquid bottle.

I retrieved it.  Carefully removed the label.  Cut off the bottle-neck along the shaped ridges near the top. Got some string to hang it, and the bradawl to make two holes in the back.  Some leaves from the garden.  A bunch of narcissi from the florist in Silverhill.

Ta-da!!

Perfect!

365 366 Day 78 – Sunday March 18th
(if you don’t know what I’m talking about, see here)

Shoes.  I liked these a lot.  I got them on eBay – a very expensive brand at a tiny price.  They fit me well.  But all I ever wear is boots in winter and sandals in summer. I bought them in one of my aspirational Lady moments.  So I didn’t keep them.

I have a wall pocket that was my Grandmother's. It looks like a lilly and I just adore it.

I am impressed! When I first saw the picture, I assumed it was frosted glass and was a little worried about the weight.

Fantastic idea with the flowers.

And with the shoes. Well done with your 366 days so far. I continue to be inspired to think about my stuff more purposefully.
