2013

Happy New Year, friends.

In 2013 I’d like to focus on three things:

To go for a walk every day.

To spend time by the sea at least once a week.

To learn what I can from Eckhart Tolle and put into practise the wisdom he teaches.  It is different vocabulary from the idiom developed in the church, but he’s pointing along the same path as Jesus and St Paul.

That’s all – not sure that was worth your reading, but I wanted to make a note of it for future reference.

May 2013 bring you peace and contentment, inspiration, exhilaration, understanding, equilibrium and real happiness.

I think your three things sound just right, and quite possibly life-altering. Not that that's what you're after. :)

Thank you for your good wishes to us, your readers, and for sharing your life and writing with us through your blog, dear Ember.

A happy and joyful 2013 to you too! xxoo

May 2013 treat you gently, dear friend xxx

We'll come and walk with you by the sea, if that doesn't obliterate the entire purpose of doing it!

Every time I read sentences starting 'May 2013...' on your blog or your FB page, I think you're talking about a date.

I like the first 2 on your list. I don't think I understand Tolle.

It has been a delight to meet you through your blog & get to know you better. It is a good thing in my life. May your 2013 be delirious with good blessings poured out from above.

When the warm weather comes, Buzz, we can take the Wretched Wretch to play by the sea. I think May 2013 might be a busy month for you . . .

Ganeida and Bean - thank you :0) xx

I have been so blessed to have met you Pen. When I started on this simple journey, your encouraging words and your writing has been one of my greatest blessings! Thank you for this :)

May 2013 be exactly what He desires for you and yours.... mb

For some reason, which I don't understand, I resist Tolle. I can't point to anything that I don't like, or that he might have done to undermine his own teachings (like the guru that teaches abstinence while merrily seducing adherents). I have dear and trusted friends who think highly of him, and would do nothing to modify their pleasure and interest in his books. And yet ... perhaps it is just a knee-jerk reaction against his fame; I know that fame is not just something that happens, but that one makes happen to some extent. And then there is our culture's tendency to worship fame, as though someone who is well-known is somehow better at what she does than the thousand of unknowns who are equally gifted at the same thing. (And do we detect a note of envy in all that? I don't think so, but I am often not my own best observer. For instance, was any of this worth sharing? Beats me.)

Thank you, Maria :0) May 2013 be a GOOD year for you and your family xxx

Hi Bruce - so nice to hear from you! I know what you mean about a knee-jerk reaction against fame :0)
Tolle is the only teacher I've come across who's been able to teach me anything on a sustained basis, though I've picked up snippets from others here and there - particularly Thich Nhat Hanh and Ursula le Guin - so I'm mighty grateful to him for being here.

This is so bizarre. My sister and brother-in-law stopped over today bearing Christmas gifts for all, and they gave my daughter a book. I thought the book looked interesting so my daughter left it here for me to read, I just picked it up and thought the author name looked familiar, and was sure it was one you had mentioned, and sure enough it is, the author is Eckhart Tolle, the book is called A New Earth. I just had to pop over to your blog to verify that it was E T you had mentioned.

So, I am now off to start reading A New Earth.

Blessings to you,

Bean

There are stacks and stacks of videos of E H teaching online, Bean. My favourite at the moment is this one, because it allows you to really see the soul quality of the man:

Thank you Ember, I will check it out, I am popping down to the basement to walk on the treadmill so will be glad to have something to occupy my mind as I walk.
I prefer to walk outside but right now it is seven degrees which in celcius is minus thirteen!

I will be doing two of your three in the list, can't go to the sea really as I live in Indiana and it is most certainly not a coastal state :)

Blessings to you,

Bean

I've often thought how good it would be to have a set-aside room for a treadmill and an exercise bike. Well done you! x

I turn 60 this year. The ticking of the clock sure puts things in perspective. I agree with you on the importance of searching out some truths that individually resonate to walk by (for me the simpler the better, I have a history of unnecessarily complicating things), and getting outside (I am envious that you live near the sea, but I have woods and water). I find regret for what I haven't done in the past to be pretty pointless unless it leads to change. So I am planning to start with what I have and let God inhabit it. He'll create the changes.
blessed New Year, DMW

ET, not EH, Ember. Clearly there's something about Eckhart Tolle we don't know!
