Notre Dame

Sorrow for the terrible fire at the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

A place of such history and beauty. So very sad.

I have fond memories of this place. It is sad. My French teaching daughter is devastated. God bless Paris.

I was privileged to share a tour with my daughter through Notre Dame. She and I made the whole group. It was exceptional. I have many pictures in my mind. I admired the stone work.

I pray that the fire fighter who was hurt will make a complete recovery. I pray for all those who are shocked and hurt by this calamity. I pray for the rebuild.

God bless France.

But look, friends, at this beautiful blog post from the anchorite Susan Creighton, full of hope and wisdom:

I've been so sad watching the news about Notre Dame. Then I looked at Susan Creighton's post and felt a shift. So wise and hopeful, as you said. She reminds us of what is lasting and true. Thank you both.

This was not the way I had planned to check Visit Notre Dame off my bucket list.....
a very pertinent reminder that time is passing and I need to Get With It!

Prayers for Paris <3

Hi Julie B — yes, Susan's perspective took me into something altogether more hopeful, too. x

Hi Rapunzel — I know! I expect they'll fix Notre Dame like they did York Minster, but I suspect you and I will be old ladies by the time it's been made right again.

I am still in shock, really. The fire photos are haunting. I was fortunate enough to visit those spectacular walls--light a candle, say a prayer--in 2002. I said I would come back again someday. That whole day has been replaying in my mind since I first saw those terrible fire photos. That spire...sigh...but, yes, they fire is not the end of that sacred, special building. Nothing lasts forever or stays the same. It enouraged me to dig out the photo album and scrapbook though. Those were good memories.
